Annual Report 2013
11
Planning takes place constantly
throughout the county as municipal
boards work hard to guide development
in ways that achieve the common vision
of their community. We are fortunate to
have an integral role in that process in 29
municipalities where we provide various
services under community planning
assistance contracts. As part of these
services, our professional planners attend
many planning commission meetings
to review plans and address important
local issues. Typical contract services
include the preparation of zoning and
subdivision ordinances, comprehensive
plans, special plans (such as recreation or
sustainability plans), and other technical
reports or studies.
This year, we expanded our program to
offer a new
to the county’s 22 active school districts.
We completed the first enrollment
projection study for the Perkiomen Valley
School District in spring 2013.
Through the
, our planners were
able to successfully assist communities
in preparing for smart growth. We’ve
highlighted some projects below:
• East Greenville Borough parking study
• Zoning ordinance for the Municipality
of Norristown
• Ambler Borough comprehensive plan
• Upper Salford Township greenway study

Regional Focus
In addition to serving individual
municipalities, our planners also assist the
four regional planning commissions that
are comprised of 26 municipalities. These
commissions—established over ten years
ago with our assistance—are still working
productively to address important
planning issues and are recognized
as models for regional planning in
Pennsylvania. In 2013, we focused on the
following regional planning projects:
• A regional wayfinding signage
program and PerkUP, a regional
marketing initiative, in the Upper
Perkiomen Valley
• Establishment of the regional
