Our Hi gh l i ght s
2013 was an exciting year for the Montgomery County Planning Commission. In
May, Jody Holton, the new executive director began her tenure. Under her leadership,
our staff worked hard to produce innovative plans and studies and find ways to better
communicate with municipal leaders and residents in the county. Significant 2013
initiatives included the kick-off of the new county comprehensive plan
the start of construction on the Lafayette Street extension, expanded
community planning assistance, and increased community outreach. All of these efforts
will have a big impact on the lives of county residents in the future.
Montco 2040.
The new county comprehensive plan was launched in October
with
, a background plan providing an overview
of the critical issues facing the county, being released to the public to start
an important dialogue about the county’s future. Over 150 people attended
workshops offered in four locations, and over 2,400 county residents provided
vital feedback through a questionnaire.
Lafayette Street Extension.
The groundbreaking for the $60 million
will be remembered as a transformative moment in Norristown’s
history. This project will improve access into downtown Norristown and Plymouth
Township, open up the Schuylkill riverfront, and reduce congestion along Ridge Pike
and Conshohocken Road.
New Service for School Districts.
Many decisions are made at the local level
by municipal governing bodies and school boards, and since the 1950s we have
been privileged to serve many municipalities through our

Increased Community Outreach.
Successful planning
involves communicating shared visions in a variety of ways.
In 2013 we significantly broadened our communications by
revising our

offering more public events.
This annual report highlights the significant achievements of
our commission in 2013, with each section focusing on the
type of activities accomplished by MCPC. We are pleased to
provide this information to the county commissioners, local
officials, and general public, since the success of these efforts
depends upon their support and engagement.
