The Norristown Area High School (NAHS) was established in 1870 in the Borough of Norristown and relocated to West Norriton Township in 1972. The student population is about 1900 students in grades 9-12.
In the fall of 2005, NAHS implemented a comprehensive school reform known as First Things First (FTF). The key components of this reform are small learning communities, family advocacy, and curriculum reform. As a result, there are now six, theme-based small learning communities for students to choose from: Business and Finance, Law and Justice, Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. All students are assigned to a Family Advocate for their four years and they meet during a regularly scheduled time once per week, with an emphasis on academic, college and career counseling. The high school utilizes an A/B block schedule, offers all core courses in a college prep and weighted honors format, and has entered into a partnership with Montgomery County Community College to offer dual enrollment (both high school and college credit) in a number of courses.
