| Student internships at BAE Systems: At BAE Systems we've partnered with North Montco Technical Career Center to provide technical internships for high school students as part of their curriculum. At first, we thought this would simply be something good to do for our community; boy were we surprised. About a month into our first summer internship, the engineers were asking if we could keep the students full-time during the school year. They were soaking up everything we taught them and asking for more. They were able to quickly become value-added contributors to the company doing real work that needs to be done. This freed up those with years of experience to focus on the highly technical aspects of our work. Now, 4 years later, we will continue with this partnership. It's been a win-win for both the students and BAE Systems. Kris W. Notable, Palisades High School won the nationals the first year we were involved with them; and Wissahickon High School sponsors an annual Robotics tournament the Ramp Riot each November as a tune-up for the coming competition season. They see 30 area high schools competing at this event. It is amazing to be able to help encourage the student's interests in science and technology, and business. After all, these are tomorrow's leaders. They also give back we've been fortunate to sponsor a couple of these students as summer interns, and we always look forward to having the teams join us when we have company-wide events. They bring their robots and teach us about FIRST. Kris W. Field Manager Human Resources, Deputy Site Exec Lansdale, PA |
